Transformers 2 - The Rise of the Fallen

Why is it that Michael Bay gets so much flack for his big epic films?? I actually loved this film. Michael Bay knows what he’s doing, and honestly, the only reason I can see that the media like to pull him apart is because he’s actually make it work for himself. When you think of Michael Bay, an imagine pops into your head of the films he makes. We all know what we are going to see and we continue to go and see his movies. So where is the problem?? He’s found a niche, it’s working for him, so leave him alone!

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, dies at age 50

Well it’s a sad day folks. I have to say that Michael Jackson was and is the best rock icon out there to date. I remember growing up as a kid and watching music videos on a friday night. At the time they were great, but then Michael Jackson showed up. All of a sudden, music videos were no longer just about music. They were a show piece. A stage to create something far beyond seeing your favorite rock stars perform. Now music videos were Mini Movies!! And who did them….Michael Jackson. No one can compare to this guy. I have very fond memories of him. I travelled a lot as a kid, and at disneyland they had a 3D show called Captain EO. I don’t know how many times I went to see this as it was just so good. Michael Jackson deserves all the credit in the world. He had a very unique way of life, a unique personality, and was a very humble man. A true star. His music cannot be matched. I grew up listening to Michael Jackson on the radio so for me it’s the end of an era. My condolences to his family and friends. I know he will be missed.
June 25th, 2009 will be a day never forgotten.

The 2009 Banff Film Festival

So I was at the Banff Film Festival this week pitching television. What a great experience. I went with a few producer friends of mine and we had a blast. I’ve never been to this particular festival before. We had meetings scheduled throughout the week and we managed to get a few really good bites. So we are crossing fingers that we can pull something out of the bag. Banff itself was amazing! I’ve never been that close to the rocky mountains before so I was blown away by the views from my hotel, and from the conference centre.

Devyn Brugge will be one to watch over the next 10 years…

In the past week I was introduced to Devyn Brugge. He is a grade 11 high school student that has, over the last three years, created a series of films as a film project in his school. The surprise for me was the fact that I ended up getting chills down my spine after watching his trailer for the film. I was absolutely blown away. His trailer tells a story, has a great sound track, and the shots are very well thought out. I believe Devyn will be one to watch over the next 10 years and I look forward to working with him.

The Cory Parsons Project - Join us for an evening at the Urban Beet in Nanaimo to kick off the Dream of a local quadriplegic!

On May 28th, at 7:30pm, ‘The Cory Parsons Project’ is looking for sponsorship to make a dream come true. Cory Parsons, is a quadriplegic who’s dream was to have his own cooking show. But things have developed into something much much more. Cory is a now embarking on fullfilling a much larger dream. To be an inspiration to all those with disabilities and without. He wants to be the spokesperson for quadriplegia, just as Rick Hansen is the spokesperson for paraplegia. Cory has been through a great deal since his accident 10 years ago and he has so much to give. There is so much that they tell you when you get out of rehab that is just so not true. With his mantra Yes You Can, cory intends on being an ispiration to all. On July 26th, 2009 Cory will become the first quadriplegic to enter the Nanaimo bathtub races. Following that, Cory is looking to launch his new cookbook that is designed for people with disabilities and those without, his new web series, and his website. But all of this isn’t possible without help. As Cory says, “his hand is up not out”. He doesn’t need sponsors, he wants sponsors.

So come and say hello to Cory May 28th, 2009 at the Urban Beet in Nanaimo. (6595 Applecross Rd - Nanaimo 250.390.9722) and see how you can help. You can also contact Cory through http://www.coryparsons.com See you there!

How to Survive the 10th Grade

Well I’m not sure how. But I think Devyn might just be the fellow to answer that question. Check this trailer out from a guy who has written and directed this film due to have it’s first public screening in June. The music was done by students, and the shots are just what you might expect in an up and coming director who is…ONLY IN HIGH SCHOOL. I watched this trailer the first time and was blown away. I was not expecting how well thought out this trailer was and I was very much impressed with some of the shots. I think your going to see this kid go places.

Star Trek - True to the Original

I have to say that this movie tops the last two by far. I was amazed to find I was really getting into this one as it really did create a wonderful story line for all the original characters. I think the actor that played McCoy was awesome! He was hilarious and even looks like the original. I like how they created the backstory with these guys. It really gives you a sense of how they all came together in the original series. Zulu, Ohura, Kirk…they all were great in this movie. And lets not forget Simon Pegg people. He was awesome! I love this guy. The fact that he’s Scotty. Fantastic. All I can say is that I loved this movie. Seen it twice so far and I’m sure if I find another friend that hasn’t seen it yet, a 3rd 4th 5th time will be in order. Live Long and Prosper!

Cory Parsons

Cory Parsons

This year Nanaimo’s Cory Parsons will be the first quadriplegic to participate in Nanaimo’s World Championship Bathtub Race – and have representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records standing by! And that’s just the beginning. Parsons has a number of death defying escapades in mind and although he doesn’t confirm what’s next, rumour has it that skydiving is on the list.

Cory Parsons has come a long way since that day in August almost 10 years ago when he broke his neck and believed his life was over. Imagine a young man – 23 years old – being told he would never walk again – that he would spend his life in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the shoulders down!

Today Parsons’ mantra is “Yes You Can!”  He is determined to be an inspiration to people of all abilities. “I want to raise awareness and educate people that people with disabilities are people and we have desires and goals and I think the bathtub race is a great way to showcase the fact that the only limits we have are our imagination.”

He is also determined to be a winner in other fields of endeavour – and he plans to bring a team of sponsors along with him. He is as passionate about educating people about nutrition as he is about inspiring them to stretch their wings and fly. He wants people to understand proper diet – whether they have a disability or not.  His first cookbook, “Cooking with Cory” is almost ready for the printers and a cooking show is in the creative process. Cory Parsons’ adventures will kick off with the World Championship Bathtub Race July 26 – and sponsors are beginning to come on board. ‘My hand isn’t out,” Parsons says. “My hand is up. I’m reaching for goals that I want to accomplish and I am looking for people to be involved through financial sponsorship.”

Many businesses are already getting behind this project. Producer, Frederic Robinson of Taba Frero Pictures first brought the project to the attention of The Marco Polo Group.com, a local marketing and design firm headed up by Tracey Emerick and Mark Hutzler. “We felt inspired by Cory’s story of passion for life and a desire to motivate others. We all felt that by giving our talents to help make Cory’s vision become a reality, it would be a great way to assist in making a difference in hundreds of people’s lives.”   Check out http://www.coryparsons.com for more information.
