Jay Leno vs Conan O’brien

Ok…so let me get this straight. Jay Leno was being retired from The Tonight Show. Conan O’brien was being promoted to The Tonight Show. Jimmy Falon was promoted to the Late Show, and Jay Leno was given his own show at 10pm. Now, Jay Leno’s show sucks (of course it would…not that it’s bad, but it’s essentially the same as his old Tonight Show), and he wants his old show back. Conan O’brien is being kicked to the curb, and Falon is still the host of the late show….Hmmmmmmmm Ok. I have a better solution. Jay takes his old show back, Conan takes his old show back, and we get rid of Falon who is a complete waist of space and has ruined Conan’s old show. He’s a horrible host, no personality, and quite frankly needs to be run over by a bus just so we can find a replacement. Obviously the networks have no idea what they are doing. Ultimately, I think Conan should keep the Tonight Show as he’s earned it, and Jay Leno, having made the stupidest career mistake, take the high road and get out of dodge. He’s done. But hey…that’s only my opinion.

Detective Fawkes and the Victim’s Vixen

It’s official. ‘Detective Fawkes and the Victim’s Vixen’ has been accepted into the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival. The festival will be on February 12th and 13th 2010. Come on out and support the film.

Detective Fawkes and the Victim’s Vixen

Just recently I was in a movie called Detective Fawkes and the Victim’s Vixen. The film is going to be submitted to the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival that takes place in February 2010. We had a great time putting this film together and I can’t wait to see the final product. One of the things that came up was the fact that in the festival’s history, there has never been a film where an animal has been one of the stars. There may have been a dog, or a cat in the film, but never one that actually played a major part. So it will be interesting to see how the audience reacts. We are hoping it gets some laughs for sure. Anyway, come out to the film festival and support all the film makers.

First Rides - Teaser Pilot

I want everyone to take a look at this pilot and send your comments in to me please. This show I hope to be working on next year and Jason, the host/producer has just finished this teaser and wants your feedback! This is a great teaser for the show. There are so many elements to it, but none I can share here :) Anyway, please make your comments. I would love to know what you all think. Thank you.

‘gone.’ - Starring Frederic Robinson and Cory Monteith

Well one of the stars of ‘gone.’ is…well…gone. To LA that is! In November of 2006, I produced a short film called ‘gone.’ The story was about two good friends that go into business together but when one starts stealing from the company, both their lives are changed forever. Our original purpose for making the film was to enter it into a local film festival. The reviews we got were better than expected so we started to pitch it around. Next thing you know it screened at the Toronto Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, and then at Cannes! It has been an unbelievable ride. Now ‘gone.’ has its own website! Check out http://www.goneshortfilm.com and see what your missing…come on…you know you want to!

Eaux Trouble du Crime II - Red Letter Films

Sometime in the fall of 2008 I was in a TV series called Eaux Trouble du Crime II playing a detective. It was actually a really great experience as I hadn’t been on set in a long time. It reinvigorated my passion for acting and as such I have been working on the craft over this year. Anyway, I had been wondering over the last week what had happened to the show. I hadn’t heard anything about it, hadn’t seen it advertised anywhere, and couldn’t find it on the web. But wouldn’t you know it, today I got a DVD of the entire show. I was actually blown away. I was not expecting to get my own copy, let alone be able to see the show. (It will air on Canal D November 12th). Anyway, this team was awesome to work with and the show looked great!

Extract and Dustin Milligan - Movie Review

Ever since I saw the trailer for this movie, I knew I was going to go when it hit the theatre. No it wasn’t because of Mike Judge, and no it wasn’t because of Mila Kunis. Having said that of course, I would REALLY like to meet Mila. I saw her on the Tonight Show recently and she was so unbelievably down to earth. And she is definitely a hotty. But I digress. No, the reason I wanted to see this movie was because of the character Brad played by Dustin Milligan. About four years ago I was directing and shooting a reality pilot that we were going to pitch to broadcasters. And yes, Dustin Milligan was one of the actors in this pilot. At the time, he had just moved down from Yellowknife and was going to try and make it as an actor. He actually just happened upon this pilot we were shooting and we had him do a scene in a staged acting class. After he had finished, we were all blown away. The room was silent. All I can tell you is that this kid has talent. Real talent. The fact that he has worked opposite Pierce Brosnan, others, and now Ben Affleck in such a short period of time only shows you just how talented this kid is. It was only 2004 when we shot this pilot, and now 2009, only 5 years later, Dustin has managed to climb to the top. I guarantee you will see this kid for a long time to come. His character Brad was awesome. In fact, his character was one of the most funny parts in this film. He is so natural. It was awesome. I have to say, that when I saw 90210 when the new season started, the only actor I found was believable was Dustin’s character Ethan. Acting is something that just comes so naturally to him. So, thumbs up to extract, and two thumbs up to Dustin Milligan. He is a true star and I guarantee you will be seeing more of him. Congratulations Dustin!!

The Nanaimo Bathtub Races and Cory Parsons

Well this weekend was a great success. Over the last few weeks I have been heavily involved in getting Cory Parsons in the bathtub races. What a ride! Just last week, on the wednesday before the race, we got the bathtub in the water with Cory. We all waited to see if it was going to sink or float as we slowly lowered it into the sea. So far so good was my thinking as it seemed to sit atop of the water. Now the fun part….getting Cory into the tub. As luck would have it, once lowered into the boat the tub still managed to float. After a number of test runs, it was obvious that all the hard work that went into building and retro fitting this tub had paid off. Vartan of Ace Line Hauler in Nanaimo can’t be thanked enough. He had done a tremendous job getting this tub ready for Cory. Now for the day of the races!!! All 48 tubs were milling about the harbour when the gun went off, and the tubs started to fly out of the starting line. It wasn’t long before all the tubs had blasted off while Cory was still trying to get his tub to plane. But by the time Cory had left the bay, he had past almost half of his competitors. Cory was here to race!! He managed to continue to pass other tubbers, secure that his tub was safe, pushing it the extra mile. But then, as luck would have it, he hit a wave that sent the tub crashing into a wave and dislodging the motor. He was done….or was he? With a little TLC from his good friend who was operating our escort boat, Cory was off again. Things were going well until a pleasure boat, and I really would like to find out who this person was, cut our escort boat and Cory off resulting in a collision of our boats. Cory was now done. The steering had been dislodged and now the boat was going to be very hard to continue the rest of the 30 kilometer run. We were headed back to the beach.

That said, the day was a tremendous success! Cory had done what he set out to do. He had raced in the Nanaimo Bathtub Races, and had been able to show people that anything is possible. We even hit National News with CTV’s Sandie Rinaldo. What a great day it was. Again, I have to thank Mike Southwell and Vartan from Ace Line Hauler. This whole adventure couldn’t have been possible without you. Until next year….

L2 Accent Reduction Centre and Matthew Mei

For the next couple of days I have the opportunity to do some work in front of the camera. Not the usual acting gig that I’m always up for but something a little different. I’m mouthing out sounds for L2, an accent reduction centre in Vancouver, BC. Today was the first day and it’s been a great deal of fun. Great people to work with which makes the whole experience that much more worthwhile. One of the more fascinating parts of the day was meeting the cameraman, Matthew Mei. Unbeknownst to me, Matthew is an artist. A musical artist. He was been producing his own music and producing music for other bands for quite sometime. After talking with him afterwards, he gave me a couple of his CD’s to listen to. His most recent album, was awesome. Matthew is definitely a talent musician. His CD’s can be found in Chapters and on iTunes. I would highly recommend you check him out if you have the opportunity. There’s some great stuff there.

G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra

Well….that should be it’s new title anyway. Let me explain. A few years ago, I found out that the great American cartoon, G.I. JOE was going to be made into a movie. Let me tell you…I was excited!! As a kid, I used to collect Star Wars figures. I even had the Millenium Falcon. But when my best friend introduced me to G.I. JOE I never looked back. Swivel Arm Battle Grip. That was the newest thing going and only JOE’s had it. I had flamethrower, Mutt, Duke, Mountaineer, Crimson Guard….I even had the mail away windsurfer. The cartoon was awesome, and the likeness of the toy figures was unreal. Now to find out there was going to be a movie coming out to resurrect the cartoon. Fantastic!!!!! Of course, that is how I felt until I saw the trailer. With every second the trailer continued, the more disappointed I got. This isn’t G.I.JOE, I said to myself. “This is Halo on acid and speed”. What happened to reality??? It’s really getting rediculous to be honest. Where has realism gone in movies??? Transformers, another big block buster that relies heavily on special effects. Was I disappointed….not in the least. This movie delivered. And Transformers 2 - The Rise of the Fallen, did not disappoint either. But we’re talking robots here. We know we’re looking at fantasy. G.I. JOE on the other hand had some pretty crazy things, but was somewhat grounded. The trailer is nothing like the cartoon G.I. JOE. It will get an audience I’m sure. But I for one think it is a bomb. Michael Bay did a fabulous job of bringing Optimus Prime and the Autobots back to life, will Stephen Sommers do the same?….I think not. The more I think about the fact that Marlon Wayans is Ripcord…argh…we are in for the summer 2009 Blockbuster farce. What a disappointment. It’s a renter…if that. New name…. G.I. JOE: The Joke of Hollywood.
